why would it cost 5million for a fire dept? This must be why the state is broke. overpaid fire depts and all public employees. maybe the could go back to volunteer fire depts.
Answer to post at 1:25. If you were to visit Redwood City or San Carlos you would not ask the question. That is BIG MONEY COUNTRY. They spend a million like we spend a thousand.
The Damn Truth or Cantrall’s Truth?
Supervisor Cantrall, at the April 12 meeting of the Modoc County Board of Supervisors, presented yet another look into why wishy-washy doesn’t sound wacky when it comes to describing how Modoc taxpayers are represented by their elected officials.
Following another sectarian request at the beginning of the meeting asking for metaphysical release from the rewards this board and its predecessors have saddled the Modoc taxpayers with in the form of monumental debt due to malfeasance, Supervisor Cantrall awoke from her plea for help only to lash out angrily at what she claimed was a false report in the Modoc Independent Newspaper.
In question was Ms. Cantrall’s perception that the Independent had inaccurately portrayed the board in general and her in particular as being against public input. Ms. Cantrall went on to state that they even voted on such a topic at a recent meeting, but that the vote was 3-2 against allowing such input, hers being one of the votes for it.
She concluded her erroneous outburst with the assertion that she had chosen two specific members of the public already for just such an eventuality, and that the Independent could either “print the truth, or keep their damn mouth shut.”
Unless the minutes of the meeting on February 22, 2011 are incorrect, it seems that it is Supervisor Cantrall who should think twice before damning someone on the heels of divine invocation:
From the minutes of the BOS Meeting - FEBRUARY 22, 2011 -
“She [Cantrall] states she didn’t pick a member of the public either because she thought this had been pulled.”
“Supervisor Cantrall states we can decide later if we would like to include public participation.”
“Motion by Supervisor Bullock, seconded by Supervisor Cantrall to enter recess Motion passed unanimously.”
No vote was taken on February 22 on this item regarding public participation. To this readers knowledge the topic was never revisited at a subsequent meeting.
And since it appears to still be Will Roger's turn for the summation –
“People who fly into a rage always make a bad landing”
Will Rogers
Truth, Justice and the American way are not descriptive of Cantrall's ways. She has often ranted about freedom of the press and freedom of speech getting in the way. The worst though is that these rantings are done at formal BOS meetings as a representative of the people even though the meeting rules require all comments to be about items under jurisdiction of the board. I don't think freedom of speech or the press are in that catagory. Chairman Crabtree is allowing her rants as well as allowing her to interrupt persons who have the floor. Shorty get control of the meetings, you're in charge, act like it.
Ron Rutledge may be a good candidate to get the ball rolling on filing a quo-warranto charge with the State AG arguing that Sup. Cantrall should be removed from office since he has been the brunt of many of her attacks personally. It might at least put her on notice that enough is enough.
To Lone Ranger........nice thought that Crabtree might try to control Cantrall's rantings and ravings, but he needs to figure out how to control his own comments first. The racial slur he made about the rag heads is just inexcusable!!!
Re: The Damn Truth - Didn't someone ask Geri and the board to vote on items after this happened in February so we would have our sups on record as standing for something, rather than falling for anything?
Yup...At least 2 posters thought the board should vote on agenda items even if they may not pass.
These comments were about the vote that never was at the Feb. 22 meeting that Sup. Cantrall was complaining about:
“Despite that there were not likely enough votes, I think the board members need to have the vote anyway.
Why? Because it creates a public record and therefore public accountability.
So Geri, next time you bring items to a vote, please allow (or insist) that the vote be taken.
Whether the motion to take action dies for lack of a second or only gets your single vote, at least the public will see it in the record that someone is trying to do the public's business. “

And:
“I agree with having the BOS vote on the agenda items, even if they fail to pass. At least it means that the hired hands are trying to do something.
Just talking about it without taking a stance, one way or the other, and without the force of a vote behind it is only an empty gesture.
So, make the motions, discuss the items, and take the vote.
That is what the Modoc County taxpayers hired you to do.”

Wonder if the taxpayers or the Independent will get an apology or correction from Sup. Cantrall?
