Heads Up Candidates
Mike Poindexter and Stacey Callahan have indicated they will run for Modoc County sheriff and John Lawson will run against incumbent Gary Woolverton for district attorney.
Supervisor Dave Bradshaw will not seek re-election. David Porter Misso of Tulelake has indicated that he will file as a candidate for Bradshaw's seat.
Filing dates for the June 8 primary election and details from the California Secretary of State are listed below. Contact the Modoc County Elections Dept for details. 233-6204.

Modoc Frontier Healthcare Coalition Reorganizes
The chairman is John Dedrick, mayor of Alturas, the vice chairman is Ft. Bidwell tribal administrator John Vass, and the secretary/ treasurer is Pit River Tribal Administrator Belinda Brown.
The association has appointed a project director, whose name was not immediately available.
The Modoc Frontier Healthcare Association will be seeking non-profit status.
Modoc Independent Daily News’ inquiries regarding the makeup of association membership and the status of the $265,000 grant funding received in 2009 were not answered as of this posting.
Regular meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month at Alturas City Hall at 9 a.m. The next regular meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 19.

Crabtree Declines, Macsay Accepts
Supervisor Shorty Crabtree, next in line for the chairmanship of the Modoc County Board of Supervisors, declined the nomination during the Jan 5 board meeting.
"I'm too old," Crabtree said.
Supervisor Dan Macsay (right) was nominated in his stead and Macsay accepted. Crabtree then agreed to be vice chairman.

Ivy B. Horr Medical Education
Loan Fund Accepting Applications
The Ivy B. Horr Medical Education Loan Fund is now accepting applications for 2010. Loans up to $10,000 are available to students who attended high school in Shasta, Lassen, Tehama, Modoc, Trinity, or Siskiyou counties. The deadline is March 31, 2010. To be eligible for this scholarship the student must be engaged in the study of medicine or in medical training at a college or university.
Ivy Buchler Horr created a trust before she died through which low interest loans are awarded to students from Shasta, Lassen, Trinity, Tehama, Modoc & Siskiyou Counties pursuing an education in medicine. The trust was recently transferred to the Community Foundation for permanent administration. To date over 150 people have benefited from the generosity of Ivy B. Horr.

Ruby Pipeline Update
"The BLM has asked for a 45 day extension to March 15. We need more time to review documents before we decide to sign or deny right-of-way, " Collum told the Modoc Independent News.
Collum also said the final Environmental Impact Statement will be published on January 8.
El Paso Corporation, Ruby Pipeline, LLC proposes a 677 mile natural gas pipeline from southwestern Wyoming to Malin, Oregon. Direct impact to Modoc County will come from the proposed work camp located at Vya, Nevada, 25 miles east of Cedarville, which will house approximately 600 workers for a period of nearly one year with 400 modular units and 200 RV pads.
